“Welcome to Chassagne-Montrachet. Our family’s history is rooted in the production of wines that express exceptional terroirs. We are the tenth generation, with the same focus on quality and respect for nature, combining tradition and modernity.” This is their welcoming message.
Chassagne-Montrachet shares global fame with Puligny-Montrachet for its Chardonnay. One might expect Chassagne to have a similar profile to Puligny—but that’s not the case.

Only a small portion of the appellation’s land is truly suited for Chardonnay. A small kingdom of Pinot Noir still exists here, proving that rules don’t always reflect reality.
History (with a capital “H”) of the Côte de Beaune reminds us that, sixty years ago, two-thirds of Chassagne’s production was red grapes (mostly Pinot Noir). Market dynamics drove the shift.
It’s worth remembering that the Grand Crus Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet, and Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet fall within the boundaries of Chassagne-Montrachet. However, these Grand Crus also border Puligny-Montrachet to the north, highlighting a continuous terroir (Chevalier-Montrachet, Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet, and Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet).

The Winemaking History of Domaine Vincent Morey & Sophie
It all began with what could be called an assemblage of vineyards. Vincent inherited his father Bernard’s vines, while Sophie brought twelve hectares from the neighboring commune of Santenay.
Today, the domaine boasts over 20 hectares (a real asset in this region), cultivated according to the increasingly popular lutte raisonnée (sustainable farming) approach.

What can I say? The white wines from Vincent Morey & Sophie maintain a crystal-clear, communicative immediacy that gives prominence and centrality to the fruit. Chapeau!
